Ondřej finished his DKDM Fellowship with a concert with Aarhus Symfoni. The nearly sold-out hall witnessed a fully Czech programme in a ‘Little Prague Spring festival’ fashion.
The evening opened with Fanfares from Smetana’s opera Libuše, traditionally played at the opening concert of each season of Prague Spring. Smetana’s Šárka from Má Vlast followed. The opening half was rounded off with a Flute Concerto by Sylvie Bodorová, a work that had been commissioned by the Prague Spring Festival. British flautist Daisy Noton featured as the work’s soloist. In the second half, Ondřej conducted Dvořák’s Seventh Symphony.
Other highlights of the fellowship included a premiere of Britta Byström’s new opera A Play of the Night in January 2025 with DKDM Opera. Furthermore, Ondřej conducted the Copenhagen Philharmonic, the Danish Sinfonietta, orchestras in Aalborg, Aarhus, Helsingborg (Sweden), Odense, Sønderborg, the Prinsens Musikkorps, and DKDM Symphony.
Ondřej Soukup is an exciting young conductor and winner of the third prize & special prize at the Ionel Perlea International Competition (2024). His repertoire counts 350+ works by men and women. He has conducted the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Czech Chamber Philharmonic, Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic, Moldovan National Philharmonic, the Copenhagen Phil, the Danish Sinfonietta, and Symphony Orchestras of Ålborg, Århus, Helsingborg, Odense, and Sønderborg, among others.
