Conductor Ondřej Soukup was appointed the next principal conductor of Edinburgh University Music Society (EUMS) Sinfonia effective September 2018. Sinfonia is a full-sized symphony orchestra and has recently performed at the Usher Hall in a concert celebrating 150thanniversary of EUMS. Its repertoire has in recent years included Prokofiev’s Seventh Symphony, Copland’s Four Dance Episodes from Rodeo, and Gershwin’s An American in Paris. Ondřejwill open his tenure with Sinfonia with a performance of Dvořák’s Stabat Mater alongside EUMS Chorus in St Mary’s Cathedral, Edinburgh.
Ondřej Soukup is an exciting young conductor specialising in Czech & Eastern European music. His repertoire counts 250+ works by men and women. Recently, he made music with BBC SSO, Czech Chamber Philharmonic, Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic and others. In the 2023/2024 season, Ondřej conducts the Copenhagen Phil, The Danish Sinfonietta, Helsingborg Symphony, Ålborg Symphony, and Magna Sinfonia among others.
