Conductor Ondřej Soukup was given a contract extension with EUMS Sinfonia after a successful 2018/2019 season. The opening sell-out concert of Dvořák‘s Stabat Mater at St Mary’s Cathedral, Edinburgh was followed by an equally successful Spring Concert, which featured works by Sibelius, Smetana and Elgar. The season concludes with a summer concert in May with works by Wagner, Sibelius, and Márquez.
In the forthcoming season, Sinfonia will return to Greyfriars Kirk with a programme featuring Borodin, Dvořák, Saint-Saëns, and Gershwin. In March 2020, Sinfonia will be joined by EUMS Chorus again for a performance in McEwan Hall and will come back to Greyfriars Kirk for a summer concert.
Ondřej Soukup is an experienced conductor of operatic, orchestral and choral music with repertoire ranging from Renaissance to 21st century music. He has conducted numerous performances in six countries and his work engagements regularly see him involved in international projects. Ondřej’s work as a conductor has been recognised and supported by a number of awards and scholarships.
